Gainesville, the University of Florida, and Statewide
At the University of Florida, SPOHP works with a variety of organizations, where SPOHP facilitates and processes interviews to generate more educational materials. These partnerships allow each organization to advance their goals by sharing resources and audiences. “La Casita,” UF’s Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures (opens in new tab) and the newly formed African-American Studies Program (opens in new tab). We frequently collaborate with United Faculty of Florida (opens in new tab), the organization for higher education faculty and professionals in Florida, as well as the UF Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research (opens in new tab), UF College of Law (opens in new tab), and UF Health Center (opens in new tab), UF Athletics Department (opens in new tab), and UF College of Nursing (opens in new tab).
Public programs and research trips are sponsored at the University of Florida by a variety of organizations, including the UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (opens in new tab) and UF Office of Research (opens in new tab). Regular event sponsors also include the Bob Graham Center for Public Service (opens in new tab) and UF Department of History (opens in new tab). In the Gainesville community and surrounding counties, SPOHP maintains local partnerships with social justice groups, collaborating with churches like Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (opens in new tab) and organizations like Gainesville Veterans for Peace (opens in new tab). The Civic Media Center (opens in new tab), a community activism center and library for alternative and non-corporate publications in Gainesville, regularly sponsors and hosts events for SPOHP, and Gainesville’s progressive newspaper, The Gainesville Iguana (opens in new tab), features oral history interviews both online and in their print editions. Volunteers and interviewees also partner with the A. Quinn Jones Museum (opens in new tab) and Matheson Museum (opens in new tab). The Waldo Historical Society (opens in new tab) is launching their local oral history project with SPOHP support, and is collaborating on a documentary about the Santa Fe Canal.
The Veterans History Project networks with organizations around Florida to collect interviews with military veterans, including the Matheson Museum (opens in new tab), Alachua County Detention Center (opens in new tab)/Alachua County Library Branch (opens in new tab), Orlando Honor Flight (opens in new tab), Iwo Trio Veterans (opens in new tab), Normandy Veterans, Library of Congress (opens in new tab), and Outpost Coffee for Veterans (opens in new tab).
The Southeast and Nationwide
SPOHP maintains a network of partnerships with social justice and progressive activism organizations across the country, including Student Action with Farmworkers (opens in new tab) and Duke University (opens in new tab) in Durham, North Carolina, the Fairfield Foundation (opens in new tab) in Gloucester, Virginia, and the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project (opens in new tab)through the American Folklife Center (opens in new tab).
